Izabela Szczutkowska specialises in analogue photography, darkroom printing and processes.
Originally from Wrocław (Poland) and currently based in Cork, her research focuses on the subjects of home, memory and identity. She graduated from Photography Studies (2012) and from Film and TV Production (2014) at St. John’s Central College Cork and just completed her final year of BA (Hons) Photography degree at Technological University Dublin.
She has curated and collaborated on events and exhibitions across Cork city, including project coordinator and gallery assistant at Cork Photo (IE) and curation at the late Gulpd Café (IE). She lead the partnership between TIFF Festival (PL) and Cork Photo in 2018, which hosted artist Marlena Jabłońska at CCAD Gallery// No.46 Grand Parade (IE).
Izabela founded Cork Photo's 5th Edition Photobook Show at TIFF Festival, an exhibition of publications of Irish contemporary photographers that travelled to Poland. She is a former member of darkrooms at both Backwater Artists Group and the 4th Floor Studios at the FÁS Building, Cork.
Her time in Ireland has also seen her working closely with a number of Irish musicians, theatre makers, film makers and promoters including long time collaborators The Altered Hours, Christopher O'Neill, feature shoots for Spliced (Timmy Creed), clothing brand Stand For (SF) and Fractured Air. Under the moniker Mondays, she worked as the in house photographer for Plugd Records (Cork, IE), and has shot promotional images and portraiture for artists such as Anna-Mieke Bishop, Aidan Gillen, Ben Frost, Julia Kent.
She has exhibited several personal projects presenting in solo and group shows (When I’m Back is Never Black or White - Triskel Arts Centre (2015), Lady Bits at Tom Barry’s Lightboxes (2017), Siar at Doswell Gallery (2017). Her work has been published in publications such as Bloomers (IE), Irish Arts Review (IE), Rolling Stone (It), Vérité Magazine (UK). Recipient of the Graduate Student Award from the Gallery of Photography, Dublin.
